Timber Machinist

​

Job Description

 

The position of Timber Machinist is responsible for operating woodworking machinery, under instruction from the Leading Hand, in order to transform wood into finished products for the construction industry.

​

Operational Requirements

 

  • Read and understand the SOP (standard operating procedures) in the company, and specific industry and environmental guidelines and standards (will be provided).

  • Rotate through the different work stations as required.

  • Check with the supervisor as to when to change or sharpen blades and knives

  • Check with the supervisor when there are any operational/mechanical issues with any machine, to determine whether it is safe to continue.

  • Operate the machines in a manner that optimises the recovery of timber (training given).

  • Report any equipment that require repairs.

  • Follow instructions for proper handling/storage of all materials including hazardous materials.

  • Ensure Quality Assurance and Preventative Maintenance checks are done and relevant documents are filled out and all preventative maintenance is carried out if required (training given).

  • Comply with all relevant Health and Safety Policies (training given).

  • Ensure plant is kept to a tidy standard.

Qualifications/Experience:

 

  • Previous timber machinist experience and knowledge of the CNC process is preferable but not necessary, along with practical skills and experience in operating machinery and tools. However training will be given to applicants who demonstrate aptitude.
